Default Painting WS6 RKSport carbon fiber hood

I recently purchased a brand new never painted carbon fiber hood from another member. I own a 01 black WS6. My intensions were to have the hood painted black up to the carbon fiber portion (the center part of the WS6 hood). Then I would like the center tinted to give it a ghoasted look. I asked my paint guy if he could tint over the carbon portion with some black paint and clear mixed. He said he thought the paint would bubble off. Anybody have any ideas? I shelled out 800 bucks for this hood. I not about to leave the carbon untouched. Thats just too ricey!!! Help me out guys.

It'll tint just fine. As long as it's sanded with 400-600 grit it will stick just like the rest of the hood. I've done it dozens of times.

I think I'd find another paint guy. As long as the resin is roughed up with 600 or so grit the paint will stick just fine.

You can go to the paint store and buy an adhesion promoter called bulldog. It has to be sprayed wet on wet and i would recomend roughing up the hood with 600 grit 3m sandpaper before spraying the bulldog. So basically you spray the bulldog let it flash for 3min and then spray your clear. Hope this helps

You don't need adhesion promoter aof any kind for CF. just sand it, clean it, and paint. The AP is for certain plastics that have a hard time bonding to paint... mostly chinese plastic like what reproduction bumpers are made from.

eh, make sure you throw some primer in there! CF is very porous (as you may have guessed), and without some sort of layer, be it gel or primer, it's going to pinhole like crazy. If you clear, then sand, then clear, then sand... it gets better, but it's still there... trust me.
