I will be painting some of my engine components myself: belt tensioner, water pump and pulley, valve covers, and coil brackets). Everything has been thoroughly degreased and cleaned. I sanded most of the casting flash off the valve covers. I scuffed the coil brackets and pulley with wire wool. That is the extent of my prep.
Of the products Dupli-Color offers, it appears the 2 best suited for engine painting are Engine Enamel with Ceramic & Dupli-Color High Heat Paint with Ceramic.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which one would provide the best looking and most durable finish on engine parts? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
Also, is there any reasonable prep work I can do for aluminum engine components that would increase good adhesion and durability? A shop I requested a quote from mentioned that the aluminum parts would need to be acid etched before painting. I have not heard of anyone on LS1tech doing this.
