Default clear coat questions

So i need a little bit of help....can someone explain to me a little about clear coat? basically all i really wanna know is...what happens with color the more clear coat you add? does it get deeper (like say black for example)? does it give more of that "wet" look? Or does it not really effect color to much and is just a protective layer and the more you apply the more protected the paint is? thanks!

you would want no more then 4 coats of clear on the paint or it will come out really hazy looking. Im sure you have heard people say they put 8 coats or whatever on their car but what they arent telling you is that they had to wet sand the car in between each coat and then wetsanded and polished the last coat to give the paint that wet look.In reality of the 8 coats they put on 4 of those coats came off for the finished product.

With today's modern urethane based paints, you want no more than the suggested 4 coats and usually 3 is more than enough even if you plan to wetsand and polish. The more clear you put on the more prone it is to chipping, believe it or not.

depth is correlated with the quality of the clearcoat. Go with a good clear and you'll have excellent appearance and depth!

Regarding reducer in the clearcoat, we're talking single digit reduction values, like 2%, so don't go overboard or the clear will run right off the vertical panels. I like to use a slower activator than required for a given temperature and that has the same effect in allowing the clear to flow out better.

Default Painted parts, I need your help plz..

I'm replacing the hood, front bumper and right fender on my Camaro. I used spray cans where you go to a local shop with your color code and they give you spray cans. Anyway, I did the whole thing, primed the parts and painted them and added 3 coats of clear. Now since I'm a first timer I need ur help guys. How do I get that GLOSSY look, to match the rest of the car? I put three primer coats, three base coats and three clear coats, again I'm a first timer so do not hesitate to tell me if it was stupid doing something so far , now I'm at a point where the I'm excited painting the new parts but they are not glossy at all .
Thank you guys very much.

more coats of clear equals one thing. SOLVENT POP. 2 coats is recommended and anything more than three is just wasting material and booth time.

2 is enough if you aren't going to wetsand anything, 3 is plenty if you are.

I went overkill on my 68 SS and put 3 coats of clear after the basecoat was laid down, wetsanded it back down smooth with 600 grit and cleared it again with 3 more coats. But the clear I was using was top of the line PPG 20/21 concept clear. Close to $500 a gallon by the time you get the reducer and all for it.

for everyone reducer is in clear no matter what you use the paint system i spray for a living is a 4-1-1 mixing ratio, which means 4 parts clear mixed with 1 part activator and 1 part reducer
