Default Can you clear coat over vinyl?

I want to get new racing stripes and if I have them painted on it will cost a small fortune adn I can get more vinyl stripes for pretty cheap but the ones I have on now are all spotted and sun faded. Will it still fade or look worse then if I just got it painted?

Thanks for all help

It will trap moisture and create rust.

You definetly can clear coat vinyl. It's done by mountain bike manufacturers all the time. I did my airlid this way and it looks amazing. I dunno if i'd recommend it for something the size of a racing stripe though.

I would never clear over exterior car vinyl graphics. Seen it several times, mostly with racing stripes. You get the nice bubbles under it creating the rust because the vinyl cannont breathe as it is intended to do. Hence trapped moisutre on metal (rust)
Clear over vinyl that is on plastic(as in lid), fiberglass, etc I wouldnt see a problem with.

WHAT???? TRAP MOISTURE? HOW IS THAT? YOU CAN DO IT VERY EASY BUT WITH THE UNEVEN SURFACE SOMETIMES YOU GET FINE LINES WHERE THE CLEAR DOES NOT LAY DOWN. I WOULD NOT DO IT!

has nothing to do with trapping moisture, and you cant rust a fiberglass hood.

Automotive clear coat will not properly stick to the vinyl decals and it will peel within a year.
