alternative solutions to the roof bubble issue?
I simply cant find any dealer who will even partially assist me in replacing my roof with a pretty bad roof bubble problem and theres no way i can afford the 1000 dollar repair at the moment...
I've been thinking, maybe there's another solution.
What would happen if you sanded the roof down to the raw material the roof panel was made out of, and then let it bake in the sun for a period of time and then had the roof repainted? It may still bubble a little, but would it at least improve the situation at all? There cant be an infinite amount of gasses/glue coming through the roof, can there?
Also, what about a layer or some sort of thin layer of impermiable resin/filler/other material on the roof (maybe after doing the other step i mentioned above) and then painting?
If youre laughing at these ideas i apologize I'm no paint/body man. I'm just thinking out loud...

I only have a few small ones but they are bubbling pretty bad. This is probably a dumb question but what about putting a small pin hole in the bubble (is it just fumes under there that will leak out or is it actually glue that will seep out)? Would that help any or just make it worse? Sorry to hijack!

When I did my t top conversion I bought a brand new one shipped to my door off ebay for 150. Beats the 480 gm charges for them. A guy on there had 12 of them and it was a best offer deal. When putting the new one on I just used windshield adheasive. Worked great and no issues.

Not to hijack to far but does anyone have a good close up picture of this bubbleing. I guess my car just don't have it but it seems to be extremly common, so I just wanted to know what to look for.

you must not have the same problem we have, cause wetsanding would in no way help. it actually pushes pencil eraser sized patches of paint up from the car when heated up, then it will go back down when they cool off. it leaves the paint looking all wavy and shitty. how would wetsanding help that?

The only way to repair the problem is to replace the top.
There is nothing you can put on or over the top to stop the problem, it will blister through decals also.
M Mecham is a Feb 98 production and has no signes of the problem. My 30th T/A and my 01 SS were replaced though.
