The most common gun right now is a gravity fed hvlp. Which means its gives you like 10psi at the cap. You are talking about a syphon fed hvlp which also gives you 10psi at the cap. And sure you can get a good finish, its more on you. As long as its a good brand gun you should be good.

It's definitely going to depend on viscosity of the paint vs. tip size, as well as your fluid flow and air setting.

I use a DeVilbiss GFG-670 with a 1.4mm tip, and it does a decently smooth finish with epoxy primer (a little peel), but it shoots very smoothly with a high solids clearcoat.

for primer i use a sata klc-b with a 1.7mm tip. for sealers, solid color basecoats and clearcoats i use a sata 2000 with a 1.4mm tip. for metallic colors i use a sata 3000 with a 1.5 tip especially for silvers and golds.

thats the same tip i have in my gun right now. I can get it to shoot epoxy primer like glass. being 1 to 1 ratio helps too....my top coat is 4 to 1 though and it difficult to get a smooth finish without making it run.

Any advice on how to cut and buff? I recently used a HVLP gun for the first time, and had the same problem. I couldn't get the paint to flow like I can with my old fashioned siphon gun. I am debating wet sanding and re-clearing with my old gun, or buffing. It's just a couple body panels, not the whole car.
