Default Metallic Black?

Guys My black car is swirled to **** and all scratched up (previous owner) plus it has the 30th anniversary striped which I hate, so Im having it repainted. Here is my prob, its a daily driver and I keep it as clean as I can but being a DD its hard to protect it really well.

I was talking to some body guys and they told me that metallic blacks (like found on the GTOs and Scion tCs) hide swirls slightly better, what do you guys think?

Is it any harded to lay a metallic paint?

I want to stay black so I dont have to completely dissasemble the car to do all the seams and door jambs so it looks right.

I canr decide if stepping up to the metallic is worth it, how could I avoid swirls after the new paint, right after its done, and cured, lay some good wax on it and make sure, its always got a healthy coat of wax?

You can stay away from swirls by never touching the paint with anything. Sounds stupid but only wash the car when it is really dirty (bugs) and only use good soap. Otherwise, never touch the paint. That is the only way to stay away from swirls. I wash my black car twice a year. Now, it is not a daily driver but the more you touch it the greater the chance of scratches.

I wouldn't bother with the metallic. I've some real crappy looking metallic black GTOs. Use microfiber waffle weave towels to dry the car and don't wash it in the sun and it should stay lookin good. Invest in a Porter Cable polisher as well.

I like the GTO black. Very slight metallic flake in it. Also the STi's black has a gold flake to it.

Not saying I dont like it, just saying I've seen them beat up too and I dont think they absorb neglect much better than our clearcoat process.

I have a metallic black with blue and purple flakes also in it on my truck. I have lots of pics linked in my sig here, page 2 of my truck's site is all the bodywork

edit: and No, metallic doesnt hide blemishes better than a non metallic. You have to properly maintain either one of them or else they'll look like ****

You can remove the swirls by using a cutting compound from 3M, you can buy it at most paint supply stores for around 40 bucks. They make a medium cut and a heavy, then also use 3M sealer wax, it's in a black bottle, and she shine again. But be very careful when buffing your car, you can burn the **** out of it real fast. When polishing I use a waffle foam pad, and that works well for me. You can also buy different cutting foam pads.

Sherwin Williams make's a Carbon Black, (Alloy Series) that is dynomite. It's easy to shoot and they make a scratch resistant clear as well. All paints, no matter what color can scratch and swirl mark. Black just show's up the problem better. If I owned your car I would try to compound it to clean up the mess. If that doesn't work, paint it.

Buy a car cover, black sucks to keep clean an shows every little ding. But a cover really does help.

I swear one day I'm going to re-paint again but only orange or red next time

I used to detail cars and had had a black 91 RS. We used a dual head(cyclo orbital) buffer with a product called seal-b. Unfortunately after a time I realized that the company I worked for changed the names of all of the products to there own names so I dont Know what the actual name of it was. It went on in between the compound and final wax. Also change your pads often and that will help also.
