Spider cracking
Spider cracking So my front bumper is showing some spider cracking. What I was wondering was if it could be fixed, or would I need to start from scratch with a new bumper? Any info appreciated

it can be painted again but it needs to be sanded all the way down and bondo. it could be cheaper to get a new one. i had to get my back bumper painted and i got a quote of $450 with paint and labor. it was $250 if i got him a new bumper or one that needed very little work. i picked up a brand new bumer for $100 and $250 for paint and labor. i spent a total of $350 but yeah it can be repaired

Bondo is the worst thing you could put on a bumper cover.
There are non rigid fillers for bumper covers that also have simmilar expansion charateristics. Spider cracking can usually be fixed without any fillers. You just have to sand down into the cover material slightly and feather it back. For the deeper cracks that cant simply be feathered out 3M makes a few geat products to take care of them.

a new bumper?! your crazy! I hit a mail box with mine about 3 months ago. fell asleep behind the wheel at 2 am doin about 20 mph. I got lucky and it only "Bounced" the bumper and didnt crack it or scar it. Had it sanded and touched up for any small nicks in the bumper from impact then repainted. looks like brand new. As for the hood.. well thats how I got my shiny new WS6 hood.
If its a deep spider crack they are a pain in the *** but the best thing to do is just sand down to it and primer surfacer with flex and add flex to everything else you spray on it.
My bumper had been repaired before I owned the car. No flex was added to the paint so the paint is flaking away and spider cracks are showing on the edges. I got an estimate today and the guy said more than likely the spider cracks will end up coming back. So I'm just going to do it right the first time and replace the bumper. He seemed a little high on his price, so I'm checking around.
Man they might have added flex but if it was like two or even three years ago they did not have the advanced flex agent that they have now. Well i guess i speak for the brand i use "sikkens". The old flex burns out after a year or so maybe even less, but the one i use now has the flex going all the way to the molecular level of things. If you were to look at it from a microscope it would look like a bunch of little henges that allow flex. The older flex agents allowed the painter and assemblers time to put the parts on without breaking the paint.
Hmmm didn't know that, it had to have been almost 5 years ago or more, as I've had it for almost 4 years now. You can also see plenty of filler underneath where the paint is chipping away.
