How much would it cost for paint-job?
was wondering how much it would cost to get a 94 red trans am painted black with clear coat finish and good quality? also, what would it cost to just get a new paint job in red with clear coat finish and good quality?

Depends on what kind of shop and what level of quality they do. Maaco would do an average at best job and probably charge you $3,000 and would just paint all the panels as they are on the car.
A proffessional shop would take off every panel and make sure everything is 100% show quality perfect, and would probably charge in the $10,000-$12,000 range.
Then there are always shops that will be in between with their in between level of paint job.
The big thing that costs so much is really the labor, much more than the paint and supplies. If you can take off panels and have them brought into the shop vs having to pay them to do it, it will save you some $. Furthermore, if you can have everything prepped correctly for them it will also save you a bundle.

Like I said, it depends on who does it, and how much time their going to have in it, and also the level of quality they can do.
I have seen some paint jobs that are immaculate go for $15,000+ I have never seen a paint job for under $1500 that looked good (or at least what I would call "good").

So far my 2ooo TA full repaint same color is up over 4K. ( w/o glass work )
Good thing for insurance tho - they could not buff out the glass, and both the front and rear glass is coming out and ( most likely ) Chinese compressed sand is going in.

I just painted my project Camaro and 4-6k is a about the going rate for a nice paint job. You also have to remember the cost of the paint is not cheap. Plan on spending $1200 for quality paint and prep supplies.

Again, its not the paint and supplies that are going to cost a lot on the paint job. The vast majority of the cost will come from the labor with all the prep work that needs to be done, as well as removing and replacing body panels, on top of the actual painting, and clear coating.
I'd say only 10% or less of the cost will be in the actual paint and supplies.
If you want to save on the paint job, do the prep work yourself (if you feel confident in your prepping abilities). Even removing panels for them to paint, and then installing them again when they're done will help out.
