Oh my husband painted his '94 mustang Laser red. I need to look for pictures. That red was deep and bold. Loved that color.

I am interested in this topic also cuz i want to repaint my car. but i want to keep it red because it is already red. and i dont want to go through the whole mess of painting the engine bay and stuff.

so i want to repaint my car red. but I was a prettier red. so i was thinking maybe the same red that it already is but with some metallic in it. what do you guys think? think this is a wise choice or should I come up with my own custom mix or something.

ok the grill pic u can see the diff in the victory red and the new red which is straight red toner

also if u want a nice red and can access a ppg global mixing bank i mixed this while in college was going for a color close to victory red that had some pearls and metalics in it
it looks real real good when the sun hits it u would swear it was a 3 stage

dupont is ok

but i love ppg since im ppg certified and all

if u mess up dupont clear though i will probly stab u its the easiest clear i ever have sprayed------dont try to glass it by hosing the dupont clear if theres orange peel when u spray it will even out trust me especially if u bake it

then use the trivac system to cut and buff it it looks real good

if i could have the ppg base and dupont clear that would be great

I did the same thing as you. My truck was straight red toner off the Dupont mixing rack. Perfect match, if you ever have to come back and shoot something else, and super bright.

yea if u cant blend straight toner then u shouldnt be painting lol

i done it like that because that way i can paint hood fenders grill cowl doors and everything on stands then pull the body in and spray it and not have to worry about the color not matching

i trust the paint shop, but i would still mess with them..

i want this i want that and so...

one thing i did not like is the fact that i was there the other day and they were painting one of those volvo suvs, painter applied the base, but they never wet sanded it before another coat, or even before clear coat..

all other paintjobs i have seen on TV or DIY logs people tend to do
1 base coat
wet sand
full base
light wet sand
clear coat
cut/buff

is that normal or just mroe than needed...
