You SHOULD be able to use WD-40 safely, ive seen alot of people remove dead bugs and **** with it and it has worked wonders on my DD, just start off in small inconspicuous spot and work from there...

I'd recommend using a clay bar. I had some really stubborn sap stuff on my passenger side t-top and it wouldn't come off with soap and water. I used the claybar and it worked great. Also it's not harmful and you don't have to worry about it messing up your paint. They have a good meguiar's package at Wal-Mart for about $15 with 2 claybars, detailing spray, and a microfiber cloth.

using paint thinner never sat well with me unless I wanted to take paint off..

People wrote all over my wife's car at our wedding, and we drove to the airport afterwards and had the car parked there all week. It was hell to get off. Razor blade the windows, and lacquer thinner on the painted surfaces. As fast94z said, as long as the paint isn't fresh, the thinner won't hurt it. Just wax it afterwards

Lacquer thinner...man you must have had some hardcore stuff on your ride cause I would never recommend using that on paint.
