Default Removing Quarter Panel

Need to get my passenger quarter panel sanded down and repainted. I hate to pay a shop $50 for any task I could possibly do myself. Does anyone know how to remove the passenger rear quarter on a '98 TA? Any help would be appreciated.

Die Grinder or Sawzall should get the quarter off, I wouldn't suggest doing that tough, its part of the unibody, Its not ment to come off.

I agree. I sure hope you're talking about your front fender and not a quarter panel...that just doesn't make much sense.

its spot welded on. only reason to remove it would be to replace it. the gm dealership costs around $800 to remove and replace, and thats just labor. last one i did, ford taurus, 2 days to do it from on frame machine to sent to paint side of shop.

i think you are confused.

Ah nevermind guess that would be a bad idea. I guess my next question would be what sort of easy prep work could I do myself before going in to get it painted? I know the tail light and power antenna have to be removed, which I could do myself. Anything else?

tail light, antenna, and side molding are the main things that would need to come off in order to paint it. I'd leave the prep work to the shop. I highly doubt they'll discount you anything if you sand it down yourself.

what color first of all, why are you painting the panel is another question.

you can detach the one corner of the bumper, and let it sag.

It's black, so they said that's a pretty easy color to go over. Here is the problem...

It's even worse than it looks. Got in a minor accident and the guy I bought it from tried to fix it himself.

I'm pretty sure they can pull or push it out. It'll look just fine when done.

yea.. you dont have to remove that quarter panel to do the job. To remove the quarter panel its about an 8 hr job involving taking half the interior out, drilling all the spot welds, cutting glue lines on the edge, Refitting the QP, Spot welding all the spots, Big PITA. I work at a body shop. Im guessing where your hand is there is a dent correct? If so all they have to do is grind the area down where the dent it, use a spot puller, then apply bondo, sand, apply another layer of bondo, sand it, prime it, sand the primer, another coat of primer, then watersand the area and paint. If there is no dent its a pretty easy job. They will just have to DA Sand the area and put bondo. And your all set. The tail light, inner quarter skirt, and the antenna cap and post, and loosen the right side of the bumper, are the only things that are going to have to be removed.
