Default ***SOLD***SBC 406 (short or long block), th400 trans, misc SBC

Category: Engine - Complete Motors
Price: $3700
Location (State): KY
Item Condition: Used
Engine: Small Block
LS Engine?: Non-LS Part

***SOLD***Chevrolet small block 406 (400 bored .030 over)…this engine was built less than 2000 miles ago by Book Racing in Frankfort, Illinois, and runs perfectly. Internals include Keith Black flat-top pistons and a Howards hydraulic-roller cam spec’d at 282/294 duration and .510/.525 lift on a 108+4 lobe center. Heads are also newly rebuilt Brodix Street aluminum heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, 66cc combustion chambers, and Crane Gold Roller Rocker arms. I estimate the compression ratio to be in the 10:1 range. The long block is topped with an Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake manifold and a Holley 650cfm double-pumper carb with mechanical secondaries. Ignition is handled by a MSD 6AL ignition box, a MSD Blaster 2 coil, and a MSD billet distributor. Finishing the motor off is an Edelbrock chrome air cleaner and a pair of Billet Specialties chrome valve covers with a cursive “Chevrolet” script.

Transmission is a th400 with a new converter and an SFI certified lightweight flexplate. According to the previous owner, this transmission is also recently rebuilt. I am unsure of the brand of the converter, but I was told that its stall speed is advertised at between 2800 and 3200rpms. This transmission performed flawlessly and shifts very firm. I was quite impressed with it while it was still in my Corvette.

In addition to the engine and trans, I also have a starter, power steering pump and bracket, alternator and brackets, and water pump that came off the engine when it was pulled.

This engine and transmission were in a 1975 Corvette I recently purchased from a gentleman in Illinois. I have always wanted to put an LS engine and T56 trans into a C3 Corvette, so that is the reason (and the ONLY reason) for sale. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this engine/trans combo. Engine fires right up every time, with good oil pressure. I took two videos of the engine running (one on cold start, and one on hot star) so that you could see the oil pressure both hot and cold and also hear the engine idle. I can email those to you on request. Engine pulls strong and runs great at all rpms, and the transmission shifts perfectly and would chirp the tires going into all gears.

Total price for everything listed is $3700. I have receipts for the engine parts and rebuild alone totaling over $5800, so I feel like this is a fair price for the engine, trans, ignition, and all accessories. If you want just the long block or even just the short block, we can probably work something out. Would be interested in a trade for a LS-series engine/trans.

Can also split this stuff up. If separated...

Price for engine with accessories and ignition is $3200obo.

Price for the trans with converter and flexplate is $550obo.

Price for the longblock (no intake, carb, accessories, or ignition) is $2700obo

Price for the shortblock is $1700obo.

Located near Louisville, KY. Willing to drive to meet someone within a reasonable distance, but not really in a position to ship. Reply to post or PM me for more details. Thanks for looking.

No, they aren't. They are an older casting, Brodix Street. I think they are 170 cc intake runners. They have the letters "STR" above one of the spark plug holes.

Can split this stuff up...long block, short block, trans, top end, etc. Let me know if you're interested in one particular item.
