wtb 3rd gen 10 bolt
Hey guys been looking for a 3rd gen 10 bolt for my car! Has to be a disc brake rear end! The parts (axles, Carrier, etc...) from the drum and disc 10 bolts on the 3rd gens are swappable right?

Yes, They are swappable. 4thgen rears will bolt in also but are 2" wider per side and are more readily available. If you have a 10 bolt drum rear you can upgrade it to a disc rear. The LT1 rear disc brake set ups on 93-97 Camaros will bolt right up as well. You can also use the posi units and gears from the 4thgen rears in your 10 bolt housing.

Yeah, I understand. The 4thgen disc brake set ups will bolt to your 10 bolt drum rear. All you have to do is pull the backing plates and swap the stuff over. For instance, I just sold a set of rear discs from a 95 Z-28 for $120 shipped. The guy who bought them is going to put them in his thirdgen.
Just in case you aren't familiar, go to www.thirdgen.org. You may find what you need there if you havent already looked. I have LS1 rear brakes on the back of my thirdgen.

You serious? Ima have to look at my friends 4th gen rear and see what it looks like! unless this guy just screwed me over with a rear off something else that has the same offset as a 3rd gen rear end. What about the brake lines? Will the ones on my car bolt on to the 4th gen calipers?

Well thats what i supposibly bought! It is a 92 10 bolt drum, built up to hold up to 500 hp with 3.73's but the thing is i want to swap the drums to disc. I dont want to go from my stock 9 bolt with disc to a 10 bolt with drums!

I dont have the flanges with the four holes where the backing plates bolt up to. I have the one with one big bolt and two small bolts that hold the backing plate to the flanges. So how can i swap the drums to disc on that kind of rear? Ive heard only way is cutting and drilling the holes on the flanges but ive heard from so many people that you can swap em somehow!

you caanot swap theparts from the 9 bolt to the 10 bolt , the 9 bolt is a australian made rearend , you will have to use a 3rd gen 10 bolt and 4th gen disc brake , you will not find a 10 bolt disc from a 3rd gen , you will have to make it , unless you use a 9 bolt , beleive me i have 150 of theese cars ,and have been working with them for years

You dont need a 10 bolt, you just need the brake set up from a 10 bolt thirdgen or 4th gens are interchangable in your case. Find someone with backing plates calipers blah blah from a 4th gen 10 bolt and put it on your rear. It should work JUST fine and be an upgrade from 3rd gen brakes.
If the car was originally a drum car you need a disc brake proportioning valve thats the only thing you need different to make it work other wise throw some 82-02 camaro/firebird brakes on your car and SMILE!

You can modify the housing end on the drum rears to accept the disc brake backing plate. The article shows LS1 brakes (which are slightly larger than the LT1) but the conversion would be similar for the LT1 style brakes.
