How to dyno a A4 with edit(trans downshift)
anyone adjust the edit table's downshift points at the dyno so you can get a decent dyno pull? I know last time i had living hell trying to dyno the car(4 years ago). What table would I adjust on edit and what would I set it to to help with this? A4's are dyno PITA's
HD,
When Evil did mine, they just put it in 3rd and used EFILive to lockup the convertor. Are you coming up to have him tune it? If not, maybe someone your way has EFILive.

i know EFI live does it
but i dunno if I can make a 2 hour+ drive to dyno tune this month. Im pushing my luck driving an hour+ to tempest in waldorf. I dont have the cash to spend on efi live either
i just need to get on a dyno somewhere close for an hour then drive back home and get to work
its busy season now for us

what converter do you have?
on the stock converter, you can barely hear or tell when it locks. with a vig 3600, so can hear the drop in rpms at 3000 rpms

You can't hold 3rd and lock up both at once with EFI. Put the car in third. Get the MPH up to the point where it won't downshift. Hit Y on the keyboard with converter selected and floor it.

You can just change your 3-2 shift at 93-100% throttle to a lower mph and that will stop it from downshifting. EFIlive will lock the converter but you have to be carefull since if you are logging too many PIDs the converter will lock and unlock during a pull. The reason you wont 'feel' the converter lock a sometimes with EFIlive is because the converter probably already is locked bringing the car up part throttle on the dyno, one look at the torque/rpm graph will tell you if was locked or not..
Before EFiLive I used to use a toggle switch taped to a stick with an alligator clip on the end of one long wire and one of those peircing hook type wire probes on the other. I dont remember what pin on the ECM it was, but if you ground that wire it locks the converter (same way you would hook up a manual lockup switch but temporary). Worked for me for a couple years before EFIlive existed
It will spit out a touble code after you do it a few times but it will go away after some driving or a PCM reset..
