Default No MAF

My brother just recently had his car tuned and the tuner unhooked the MAF. I always thought that the MAF was only deleted when it wasnt NA, what does unhooking the MAF benefit?

Maybe, post the details as to what car U R referring to, & how the car is set up?
Kinda difficult for the "goorus" to respond w/ zip for background info....

Well...you can run a car without an MAF, I'd personally like to have it as a safety measure up to 4,000 rpm. By unhooking the MAF or creating what is called a MAF failure, it allows for a person to tune the new mods of the car. This means, your air levels will be read by the VE or Volum Efficiency.

So what I am gathering is that it is better to leave the MAF hooked up instead of having a speed density tune, I am now hearing that the speed density has better throttle response...

Well...people have their own preferences. As long as your car drives fine, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

SD in general has better throttle response. Depending on the mods, getting a MAF calibrated correctly can be a huge pain in the ***.

Yes, SD does have better throttle response...and yea getting the MAF calibrated right can take a little time. I'd talk to the person that did the tune and see what his two cents is.
