Default 98 to 02 PCM now only low charge altenator

I switched to a newer PCM now I only get a low charge from my altenator. How do I fix that. I followed the pinout diagrams and it seems like I'm missing that wire.

b/c the wire does not go to the pcm. Goes directly to the gauge (red Wire), on 98's I believe.

MY harness was modified by a buddy and he mentioned he added a resister to the alt wire for similar reasons. Mines a stand alone style though. I'll do some homework for ya and let you know whats up if i find something.

Does this make sense? I've had a few drinks in the garage working on the same thing.
HOPE IT FIRES BACK UP!

If the red wire doesn't go to the PCM why does the 99+ pinout diagram say generator next to C2-15. So it sounds like I just need a new alternator. My tuner says differently thats why I'm not sure. He said I need to run a wire to the LCM then to the PCM but one pin over or something like that?

did you change the cluster?

When I repinned my 98 to a 2002, no alternator issues, I kept the 98 cluster and did a segment swap.

koosws6 - Did you use a newer engine harness when you did this PCM swap?

slow - How did you do your swap? Re-pin the PCM or swap the harness for a newer one?

I just went to a one wire alternator on my 98 TA, did away with the red wire (exciter). Now all i use is the power wire from the battery. Also any info on changing to a newer computer would be greatly appreciated. Is there a link to this change? Tired of the one year only PCM.

After 1998 PCm swap to 2000', I keep getting P1637 error (Generator L-circuit), and voltage is real low (sometimes drop way below 13V).
What am I missing? I did the conversion by http://www.chipsbyal.com/convert98/ link...

alternator charge schedule is controlled by VCM (C2 pin 15) for 99-02 f-body, 98 f-body charge schedule is controlled by the voltage drop across the dash light

I get that code if I let my voltage drop too low, i.e. idling at 550 rpms for extended times. I think it freaks the computer out when it cant bring the voltage back up.

if all else fails you could run a wire from the pcm to the alternator but that is a poor way of doing it, I would find out where your open circuit is between dash and alternator....

im a 98 to 02 swap and my car is charging as normal using the 98 exciter wire from the dash.

Mine had that need to set the pcm to F terminal for alternator. If the dash gauge reads right everything is good. I just disabled it all together.

Doing my swap this weekend, my car is a 98 z28 and upgrading pcm to a 02 411 unit

Ill be using same document made by Chipsbyal

Its confusing to what do i have to do with that alt wire? Do i have to run a wire from the alt to the pcm then or is there another solution?

Sorry for waking up threads

If you think you MUST do this swap, this is the correct way.

Well i was reading on what you post about this swap on another threads and all makes sense , but a good friend of mine has 02 year unlocked on hpt and a spare 411 , my other 98 was on stock pcm and It was as good as any other 99+

Btw hpt support can handle this right?

I'm doing this swap soon. I'm going to a speed density tune and
The 98 PCM is just too slow.
