Default Tune or not?

I plan to put a 5.3L 4L60E with a Z06 type cam and headers into a 64 chevelle. After researching EFI Live and HP Tuners I have come to two conclusions.

1. Both software suites are complicated at first glance.

2. Both software suites are relatively expensive.

Should I just send the PCM out to someone like wait4me for a tune? Would like to do this to save cost.

Can someone get a tune right with the above info (and tire/gear size) or will I possibly have to send it back a time or two before the tune is right?

Find a shop, usually the first tune cost about the same as the software, but I wouldnt trust a mail order tune for a d/d

Its not a daily driver.

I live in rural Arkansas, we don't have "shops" like out in California.

Buy the software, learn to tune it yourself. You can make the car run the way you want to run and you will always have the ability to retune it for future mods.

Default Tune r not

If you buy the software, it's a big learning curve so be prepared.

I've been playing with HP TUners on n off for about 6 months and just familiar with the tables charts n stuff.

I seen a video between EFI and HP before I purchased. For me, seemed like the menus are easier on HP Tuners.

I've heard FROST does great mail order tunes and that would be a more cost effective solution. If you not planning on changing things down the road, that might be your best choice.

from what i understand mail order tunes are just base tunes there is no substitution for a dyno tune. my advice to you is get the software and be very conservative at first
