Default Wideband through EGR Help

Mods, if this is the wrong place for this forgive me.

Hi all,

I have a 1997 V6 Camaro. I do realize that this is the LSx Tuning forum, but I believe that the answer will be the same for a V6.

I recently acquire a innovate LC-1 wideband and got it all installed a month or two ago, only to find out the sensor was dead (i bought it used :/ ). I finally got around to getting a new sensor for it, got it calibrated and plugged in today, and it works (i can tell by viewing it on Logworks). I then hooked the WB up to the EGR by connecting the WB's brown wire to the EGR's white wire (the white wire was the only wire i was getting 5V at). I setup my VCM scanner on HPT (not pro version) to read the WB as i read on a write up on here, and on a vetter forum. i go to do a scan and i get nothing on those parameters. would someone be willing to look over my .cfg file and see if I might be missing something?

I know that I only have a lil V6, but I love playing with it. Any help from yall would be amazing! Thanks in advance.

The wiring diagram I looked at for a 1997 camaro 3.8 doesn't show a white wire at the egr at all. It shows 2 brown, 2 grey, and 1 black. For this diagram you would want to hook into the brown wire at pin C.

ok, well then its grey. lol. the car being 12 years old i guess made some of the wires discolored. someone said it was supposed to be one of the brown wires, but i was getting 13V from one and .8 from the other.

Do you still have the connector there? You want the brown wire that is in the middle. It will be the one reading under 1 volt.

In your cfg.file in the ''table'' first you need to log EGR Position Volts.
To do this just right click one of the free cells in the table, click ''insert''. Then go to Engine->Emissions->EGR Position V.
You need to be able to log EGR Volts in the table, once you can read EGR volts next step would be to make a custom pid with the appropriate settings for your WB.

z28camarols1: that did it! thank you so much!

now, my WB program (log works) is readint the AFR at 14.2 at idle, but HPT is reading at around 11. how to i adjust the function to get HPT reading what logworks is?

sorry guys, back again.

did some logging, and did 2 or 3 WOT runs. logworks was showing my AFR anywhere from 12.0 all the way to 22.3 :O where HPT was showing it anywhere from 14.3 to 15.6. so what gives? is logworks defunct or is HPT not reading it right? at the moment my function for the WB is [PID.2811]/0.5+14, which i thought was a bit high (the 14)

any help with this would be amazing.

thanks in advanced.

Here's a good post on the HPTuners board to make sure your math is right on both programs. http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22400 It's using a MVPI pro but you'll just need to replace the volts with [PID.2811].

I have been fighting with this thing for a month now. I have the WB (LC1) hooked up through the EGR. my WB is reading 14.2 at idle, while HPT is reading at about 11.9. When i give the car a lil gas it spikes up to 19 on my WB, but HPT really doesnt move at all. it stays around 12. my PID setup for my WB on HPT is:

([PID.2811]/.625)+10

i have done tons of reading, and for whatever reason this thing is just not working. so does anyone have any ideas?

Did you program the wideband the same way?

the WB is setup right now to read 10AFR at 0 volts and 18.13AFR at 5 volts. thats the right way to set it up right?

Yeah, that's what I mean. What is the EGR voltage reading while you're logging? If you just do the math manually does it match up? Can you test the output of the WB with a mutlimeter? Post a log or a screen shot of both programs.

alright, ill get a log tomorrow.

the EGR voltage is reading around 2V +/- .4V.

and i wanna make sure im right on this: there are two output wires for the LC1. a brown and a yellow. the yellow is explained to go to a analog gauge, and the brown to a data logger. so i use the brown wire to hook up to the EGR correct?

The brown wire is the one that is supposed to be used, but I don't see why it makes a difference. The brown wire coincides with the analog output #2.

Are you setting up your output voltage on analog 2?

If the EGR Voltage is always showing 2V +/- .4V it means that you have connected your wb output to the ''wrong'' EGR wire. So this issue has nothing to do with your settings in your cfg.file. When logging EGR Voltage it shoud move around. Try to find the correct wire on the EGR connector by logging EGR Voltage and if it is moving 1V up to 4-5V you know that now you have got it connected to the right wire.

Also from my experience it is easier and more accurate to log AFR thru AC pressure sensor than thru EGR sensor. Getting the AFR reading thru EGR on HPtuners to match the reading on your wb can be a pitta. Done that been there

i would read throught the AC pressure sensor, but being in Fl and it still being 90* here its impossible to drive around without AC for any length of time. lol.

and as for hooking it up to the "right wire." I hooked it up to the middle brown wire, as told by poolshark021. when its not hooked up to the WB the wire reads .1V, which is what the EGR position (V) reads on HPT when the WB isnt hooked up to it. that is the correct wire, right?
