Default 98 pcm help

is there anyway to run a 00 model comp. with a 98 wiring harness?

In short no. The harness can be re-pinned, but IMO is too big of a PITA. You could install a 99-02 harness and do a full reflash on the 98 PCM. The PCMs are teh same just having a different pin-out.

you cannot flash a 98 pcm with any other year OS of you will kill it, you need to replace it with a 99-00 or 01-02 pcm

Repinning the harness ain't that big of a deal. A lot easier than changing the harness, besides you already have a harness. Reflash of 98 PCM wont work. Dean.

Does the 99 and 98 pcm use the same harness connector and are any special tools require to unpin connector, thanks

i got a 98 TA whats the benifet of going to a newer model pcm?can i just have the 98 pcm tuned for the mods instead of changing it all out then get tuned?

thanks for the info.
question-if i have a 98 camaro i am wanting to mod, i.e., heads, cam, injectors, tune accordingly, will i be better off changing to a later pcm, if so, what year pcm?

It all depends on the extent of your mods. I'm running 10.2 with a 98 ecm so It can't be all that bad. The only reasons I see to change it out are either adding Boost, or really aggresive heads/cam/high compression. So in short, unless your adding boost or building a race car your good to go.

The later pcm have it's advandage in that they are easier to tune using a c.o.s. and they are faster with better resolution. But it's unlikely any of that would equate into HP in a typical heads/cam car.
