Default timing 40 degrees at WOT???

ok, so my problem is that reading my timing on Auto tap is showing 40 degrees at WOT. I have a Preditor tuner and I can't seem to get it down at all!! This seems way to high. I though about 28 to 30 would be best for stock cam 02 trans am WS6. I have all the bolt ons and I spray 150 shot. I use a timing tuner to pull timing (about 10 to 12) write now. Am I pass the abilty of this tuner? Or am I missing something. Both the tuner and Auto Tap show 40 degree's at wide open. Thanks for any help.

No way. Either the Auto Tap is too slow to refresh and provide the true timing or it's not looking at the right table. HPtuners, LS1edit or EFI live would be best. You know the saying. Garbage in......Garbage out.

SOunds like it is going into the PE Timing Table and adding spark due to AFR.

We are an EFI Live dealer, so I can get one to you if you would like.

EFI Live is definaitly a software for people that want the maximum out of the car. I really like their scan tool features over HP tuners.
It is very powerful. As far as ease to use, that is your call. I would download both HP tuners and EFI Live and see which one you think you would be more comfortable using.

Again, i prefer EFI Live, as it is easier to use from a develpment standpoint.

The cost is $799, and that give you the ability to tune 2 vehicles.
Let me know if this is a route you want to take.

Thanks,

You should have two tunes. When your planning to just drive and play on the street, and another when you spray at the track. If you dont, you'll be fat all the time to support when you spray thus causing reduced gas milage................if that's an issue

Timing that high can be caused by a few things.I've definitely seen bad mass air meters do that. They don't read a high airflow and keep the timing in the low load tables.

I have a Granatelli mass air flow, cold air intake tuned. I thought when I used my scanner and it showed the timing that it was the actual timing is this true?? plus I am using a timing tuner to pull timing with nitrous.

If your scanning software is properly showing you the data...I agree with Slowhawk, I would bet it could very well be your MAF sensor.

Spark and fuel are both based on the airflow into the engine, and I'd really be amazed if your spark lookup table referenced 40 degrees of spark at the amount of airflow an LS1 should see at full throttle.

Try putting your stock MAF sensor back on and watching the scan tool again. If you don't have it, try unplugging it and seeing what the scan tool does (airflow will be calculated in speed density mode, and the car will be running on the low octane table now too...which should definitely show you less spark advance...so if it still shows you 40...it sounds like you're having some compatibility issues with the scanning software and the PCM.

Agree.... very much worth the investment. The optional operating systems makes it easy to tune for boost and NoS.

+1 on COS5, it has boost and nitrous tables.

What year/model/vehicle do you have...?

2001/2002 F-car: COS5 will fit straight in.
1999/2000: tables have to be copied.
1998: require 411 PCM swap, PCM connector re-pin, fuel segment swap (it's not that hard).

You can play with the actual software, download/install from here.
It comes with sample log/tune files from real vehicles, you can view/edit those.
