Default tps problems .86 v to 2.79 3% to 56% tp%

Strange strange things....

tps reads, .86 v to .94 at idle no matter what I do. I tried resetting it 20 times. At one point it even read .86 and 24-25% tps %. The .86 v at idle has been constant but the tps % has varied, but never below 2 or 3%. Reset it and it does not change.

I had an o2 unplugged at one point , and thats when the tps% went to 24%, but the volts were constant still at .86.

I even tried a known good tps from another car, same, even scanned it on the other car first, .56 to 4.5 on it, but .86 to 2.79 on mine.

Tried a third tps also, same. I even tried elongating the mounting holes and removing the tang on the sensor, still no change, I cant get it below .86v. at idle or above 2.79 at wot.

Any ideas........Im gonna try a pcm tomarrow

I would check the gray wire at the tps for 5v.

Before you change the PCM, check the actual voltage of the return signal at the PCM using a volt meter. It's the dark blue wire on pin 24 on the red connector.

Check your grounds also. We pulled our hair out with a similar problem to this on my buddies formula, It ended up being in the harness.

I checked for 5v, and found 4.99-5.00 in either start or while running. I added a ground directly to the battery, no change.

I checked the blue wire at the connector and pcm, same ......and its a brand new harness.

If I pull the sensor off, I can manually turn it till I get either 0 or 100%....but when I pulled one off a running car, hat was scanned prior to pulling it, it was the same, .86 to 2.80.....

Any update on this, I am fighting the exact same issue as you, under the exact same circumstances.

Just did another post. I had a similiar problem where the TPS seemed to be fine until the car got warm then it started jumping and went to about 14%. This was at idle and it would start surging. I replaced the TPS and the problems went away. A simple test is to just let the car idle and if it starts jumping just unplug the sensor. It should drop right down to 0% and behave. Plug it back in and see if it happens again.
