I think I went over 20K on my last wideband O2 sensor. I have the type you can 're-calibrate'.
You could probably ruin one quicker. You don't want to run one unheated, or one that is improperly placed in the exhaust system.
As long as you can verify the accuracy of the one you are buying, I guess that is O.K. I always like new, so for $90 or less I like the peace of mind that tuning and my resultant AFR on spot on. Its one of the most important tools of tuning, so I make sure to get it right..
