Default 4L60E won't shift 1-2 at WOT

Just got done swapping my old motor from my car into the wife's car. I took her car out to the track, and the thing won't shift at WOT from 1-2, or 2-3. I'm really hoping it's in the tune, and not mechanical. The tranny is perfect at partial throttle driving around tow. Kickdown is even great.

I have it commanded in EFI to shift at 6200, and I have to pedal it twice to get it to shift. It goes all the way to the limiter.

Little background is that the car is originally a 6 speed car from back before I owned it, it has a 3600ish stall. It's your run of the mill h/c car otherwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well EFI Live is alot different then HPT. But it looked like your shifts were set at 6300. What is your RPM limiter set at? You may need to lower that RPM it is commanded at 6300 but will not shift for another 1-200 rpm's more.

My limiter is set at 7k. I will try and drop it to 5000, and see if it will shift. Then I'll see if I could do it manually. Problem is, it's for the wife, si she has to be able to put it in drive and race.

You can zero out the MPH table part of the tune to see if it is the trans or tune. After you zero out the MPH table it will shift by RPM only.

I think you may be on to something. You thin both parameters have to be met ( speed and RPM) to shift? I will try to take each out of the equation, and see if it will shift.

I don have EFI, but when I hear you say you have to pedal it twice, sounds like your WOT shift is set higher than your ear likes the RPMs to go and you let off the throttle, then it shift, and then you push the pedal back down.

If that is the case, look at where your WOT points are set, and lower them to a lower RPM range and or lower MPH. If your transmission is older and worn, you may command it to shift at 6000 RPM but because its a little tired, but the time it thinks about and takes action, it may be 6400 RPMs. If that's the case, you have to understand that, and lower your points more for the desired shift points. Those have nothing to do with your Rev Limiter setting.

Also if EFI has a table which shows when what percentage your throttle has to be at for WOT. That my be set to high.

If you had HP Tuners, Id take a look at if for you, but I dont use EFI.
Good luck
Phil

You wot shift MPH tables are set to high. The one shift isnt allowed till 6500 and your Final rev limit commanded is 6200 on the cold table.

I would move those down to say 40% of what they are now, then just command what you want in the wot rpm tables.

6500 is probably too high for a shift anyways.

Thanks for the tips guys. I made some adjustments to the shift points, and will try it out when it dries up around here. Hopefully it works because having to pedal is definately costing me some ET

I'm having this exact problem but I don't have a tuner. Is there a way I can hard reset my PCM to stock settings. I guess the previous owner put a crappy tune on it.

Two things you should know. The first is that you just resurrected a thread from 6 years ago, so don't expect a prompt response. The second is that you cannot "hard reset" a PCM to a factory tune. You need to find a stock file to flash back into it. This requires some form of tuning software.

Speed and rpm tables in tune are probably set to high 5200 rpm 35 speed works good for mine.

Bit late but for anyone else reading the original part of the thread, BOTH conditions have to be met, and from memory, it has to see the MPH before it even looks for the RPM condition, hence many people just zero out the MPH.

Use a gear calculator to figure out what mph you are at @ 6200 rpm, then set the shift mph 3-4 lower. For example, @ 6200 rpm the car is 38mph, set the shift mph to 34-35mph and shift rpm 6200.

Default Lower MPH

Al these guys are correct.

The pcm looks at mph FIRST.

Lower mph and watch your problem disappear.
