Default ODBII How to connect? Serial Data Wire?

Hi All,

have my LS2 running in my miata but need to HPtuners to turn the fan settings. That said I desparately need my odbII hooked up.

I have determined the pin outs but can't find the right wiries for the serial data. I am using a 2006 GTO pcm and harness. Right now i know I need the two grounds, one power and think I need can bus + and can bus- from the C1 connector but don't know where to get the serial data line?

Another forum had recommended I get this from the PIM module but don't have one on this harness. My guess that is part of the body harness that didn't come with this harness.

Any suggestions at all? I have looked everywhere and spend weeks trying to track this down.

you need 2 earths (diagnostic plug pin 4 and 5)
you need battery power 12V (diag plug pin 16)
you need can HI + (diag pin 6)
you need can LO - (diag pin 14)

what ecu is it - and E40 or E38

knowing that can tell you where to get the can hi and lo

dont need serial data at all

What you have typed is great news. I have a e40. I think if you are correct then I just need the TN/BK and Tan from the C1 Blue module. What is the serial for? Another person told me it was essential. Perfect if it is not as I have all i likely need.

Does it matter where I ground?

So I gather the ODBII connector gets all of its data then from can + and Can -?

Kind Regards.

doesnt matter where you ground it. just a good earth.

E40
Can Hi - Blue X1 Plug - Pin 1 - Tn/Bk
Can Lo - Blue x1 Plug - Pin 2 - Tn

the serial in the Diagnostic plug normally goes to the other modules in the car.. ie BCM, Climate etc...

older cars only had UART then serial communication

then went to a mix of serial and can

then to can only

now to can and a new middle speed bus

for a pure standalone setup where you only want to communicate with the ECU then the 5 wires outlined is all you need
