I have a mail order tune and my AFR at wot is commanded at 11.9-11.7 above 4k rpms.
Is this done for ultimate safety or is there a better reason for such a rich tune? I've read 12.6=13.1 is best for power, but wouldn't the mail tune guys lean it out from 11.7??

Just like the stock tune, it's there to be extremely safe in the long run and save themselves the hassles of blowing up an engine.
Mail tuners would be taking too much of a risk commanding 12.8 AFR from the get go without knowing what's going on in the actual engine. So they put it at 11.8 and even if there are big variations in the actual output they are still covered.
If you're playing around with 13.0 commanded AFR you better have a good wideband hoooked up directly to measure true AFR which is not something they can do through an email.

Due to 100% VE limits and some limits associated with the MAF table you have the skew some LT1's to get them to come out to the AFR you desire. LT1 computers are nearly as nice and neat to tune as a LS1 computer.

for a lot of the LS1 factory tunes also; It's primarily for cat overheat protection I believe.

Well, I've got a wideband in the mail. I'm not about to screw with it not knowing where I truly am. Plus I can track tune myself this way.
How much power do you think is possible to pick up from this alone (assuming the 11.7 is close to accurate)?
