Default Car failed smog test.. but passed emissions... need help!

Ok, so my car failed the smog test, but it passed the visual and emissions test. It was the readiness test that it failed. It says catalyst not ready, etc... What do you guys think i can do? Can i just download someones completely bone stock tune and upload it or something? I thought i reflashed the thing, but i guess i did it wrong?

If you reflashed it right before the test it will fail the readiness test. You need to drive it for a little while before its ready to go.

I guess a good question would be what changes have you made? What did you do to reflash it?

well before i did anything i saved my stock tune... the bin of it. then i uploaded it. the changes were to tune out the egr, air, and rear o2 sensors, as well as a speed density tune.

have a Inspection Only Tune that has all the readiness tests set to Ready. I use it once a year and flash it right before going and then put my old tune back in afte I passed. Mine just passed so I am good for another year.

Good Luck.

Go through the DTC section and make double sure that
when you "tune out" codes, you set them to "Enabled,
No Error Reported" (3, in HPTuners) and -not- "Disabled".
Disabled tests will prevent the higher level Readiness
checks from completing. When everything runs with
No Error you're good.

Sure, but the scan tool should tell you exactly what
it's complaining about. Stock tune will not be happy
with the situation either.

this whole smog biz is quite funny with these tuners around, haha

viva hp tuners and efi live

life savers for modern hot rodders

the reality is most people don't drive these cars enough to actually warrant emissions levels high enough to hurt anything ...

k i tried to download a stock tune from the hptuners website and it is making my car idle to where it wants to die. plus there is a bigger power lag, and it sounds more lopey than it used to be...

Still not understanding why you would take a new tune
over just fixing the code-related problems of one you
(presumably) are otherwise happy with.

Maybe this will help. I've highlighted I believe what Jimmyblue is referring. There are quite a few more down the list so this is example only.

Will putting everything back into "3" Enabled, No Error Reported allow you to pass the readiness checks even if your car has the rear o2 sensors deleted? Or can those be left as Deleted?
