John,

If you are referring to FAST's crank relay interface that will work with the factory crank sensor... It's somewhere in between beta and mass production. They have a few working ones.

I am waiting for one too and hope to have one of the first ones out since my car already has a working FAST system on it.

I will ask them tomorrow for a revised ETA.

I should have my car working with the FAST as a total standalone by April 1st. I am currently not using the Edis box but bought one and will be using that too.

I talked to Craig @ FAST just now, and it sounds like the FAST Crank Signal Decoder will be available around April 1st. It sounds like it's relatively compact and can be mounted low near the crank sensor or you can run longer wire and mount it elsewhere. Since the factory crank sensor has three wires, the Decoder will be the same.

There is no part number in their system yet, otherwise I would have ordered one. I have been waiting for this part for two months. It's why I have not made any runs in my car.

John, you know you could just run an MSD Crank trigger right? That's what we've been doing with all our FAST systems...

I asked Kurt at Wheel to Wheel about the part and he said the end of March probably. They have already tested the part on the engine dyno.

I have the MSD 4x crank triger,I'm not sure how to set it up. It just seems that using the FAST crank relay and factory sensor would be simpler. Thanks John.

It's probably easier, because then you don't have to install and degree in the crank trigger. But that's up to you. You'll still need the edist box to fire the coils (unless I'm unaware of something you guys know about)... The crank trigger signal goes to the main ecu, which sends a signal to the edist box via the "points" wire. The edist then fires the coils in reference to the cam sensor or an inductive style cam sync.

The crank trigger is for the ecu to be able to control ignition timing.

The cam sensor is for the edist (or a sequential Fast ECU) to know which cylinder to fire when.

Good luck!

Chuck -

I know I could run an MSD crank trigger, but based on the problems folks in the LS1 world have had running one I am not interested. Did you say in your PM to me that someone you know is having problems? I confused by your PM since it seems opposite to what you are suggesting in this post... please explain I am confused.

Folks put the crank triggers, or I should say, mount, the crank triggers off of the front of the oil pan. They had a ring to the dampener.

By the time my 10 pt is done, and my paintwork, I'll have the crank decoder and will use that.

Yeah, SAM (The School of Automotive Machinists) is having problems getting theirs running right now. I'm going there tomorrow to see if I can help them figure it out. It's hooked up using an MSD Crank Trigger and the stock cam sensor. Technically it should work. So I'm thinking it's just something in the ecu, or the edist.

There's actually a huge problem with running a crank trigger on an LS1 most people don't know about. Thus the reason I guess they're having the problems you mentioned...

? I talk to FAST every other week Todd.

The FAST needs a 4x crank input, an the stock LS1 signal is not 4X.

Crank trigger is okay for a race car but the FAST crank box will be $100 and that's a lot cheaper than a $600 (with labor) crank trigger setup. Plus I have nobody locally who could have trued the stuff up for me.
