Default Car died! Dashboard madness

Car was running just fine, pulled into parking lot to pick up my kids. Re-started it and turned fine, idled fine. As soon as I put it in gear (reverse) to pull out, ALL lights in the dashboard repeatedly lit/went off and lit up again. Each time the lights lit up, the gauges would sweep the entire range and the motor would stumble.

Well, I turned it off and when I turned it back on, the motor would not turn over and the dashboard would remain dark.

After checking all connections, cables, battery seems good. Called wife and tried jumpstarting it. Same result, motor does not turn over and dashboard does not light up.

Had to have it towed. Anyone have any suggestions?

Car is 2002 CE M6 T/A with just bolt-ons (Granattelli MAF, Lid, 160* thermo, !cags, 224 camshaft, stock heads, FLP longtubes). All these have been installed for close to a year with no recent modifications...

Help would be really, really, really appreciated.

Hate to say it but it sounds PCM related, with what you are describing.
Check the fuses & maybe swap out the relays but if PCM is getting powered up & has good grounds it's prolly fried.

headlights and stuff like that work? sounds like a pcm here too or perhaps a security issue.

That's what I'm starting to think too...But what bothers me most is that it came out of the blue! No recent mods or tuning, either. Just got in, put the key in and ZAP!

Mine did that at the bank about a month ago, just sitting in the drive through with the car off(they take awhile sometimes) listening to the radio, and got my money turned the key and everything yours did mine did too, except mine started after getting out the window and pushing it back in front of everybody , I ended up replacing the battery, the walmart delco made everstart was the one I bought 3 years ago, noticed it was leaking out the positve post, I guess I tighted too tight the last time I pulled it out to clean it and the tray, ended up buying an optima and have no problems since. But I don't go to the same stall at the bank

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be the positive battery wire that goes from the battery to the fuse panel, was grinding against the crank pulley and shorting.

Make sure the connections to your alternator are not loose!

Mine did the same thing when the PCM was going out. They ended up finding a fried wire under the PCM unit. Of course that was after they replaced the fuel pump and the entire PCM....they call them 'technician's' but they are just guys at a auto shop...lol
Anyway, sounds like PCM.
Good luck, let us all know.

Check your ground wire connections on the rear of the drivers cylinder head. There are 3 wires on 2 bolts...

Thanks everyone. Battery's positive terminal was leaking and chewed thru the red cable down below close to the chassis in the engine bay. That shorted everything out. Replaced and running again...

Happy again!

I had the same problem with mine. Positive terminal leaked a bit and was causing a greenish residue to accumulate.

starter wires --or a bad ground --or even worse the BCM module "body control module"
but most likely sounds like a power conn. or a ground
