Default Laptop died while downloading from the pcm...

As the title says, my laptop either flat turned itself off for no reason or the battery died while I was trying to connect to the pcm using efi live. It wasn't while loading a tune, just while I was in the diagnostic section and tried to connect to the pcm. I have connected to my truck before and it worked fine. I also used it on a friends truck today and it had no problem linking up to his. I was under the impression that the only time you could mess up the computer is if the cable came disconnected while flashing in a tune, not simply trying to connect to the pcm to read from it but it now fails to connect every time. Is it permanently messed up or is there a way to fix this? The only time I've heard of any problems like this was when you were reflashing in a new tune, not simply trying to connect for diagnostics.

You said it happened not during flashing, but when trying to connect in logging/scanning mode...?

Check cigar lighter fuse, then try again.

If no go, then disconnect/reconnect battery and try again.

Failing these, key on and pull both the PCM fuses. This
can reset a hung bus.

Yeah, I just disconnect the battery for 15-20 minutes and they come back to life.

Thanks guys. I thought about disconnecting the battery to clear everything when it happened but called it quits for the night because the laptop was dead and I didn't have an ac adaptor to plug my laptop into. My x wife kept the one I used to have... I will try these things and yes, it just happeded while trying to connect and read the pcm using the diagnostic software, not the tune software.

Just wanted to update this and let people know disconnecting the battery worked. Note though, the engine won't run worth a **** until it relearns so don't be shocked if it doesn't idle and runs rough, it will relearn pretty quick though. 25 miles or so and everything runs smooth again on my truck.
