Default Tuning out the maf?

I was told the maf could be compleatly tuned out, is this true? If so what benifits are there to tuning it out? Also what is the down side to this and how exactly do you do it?

The MAF system is the most accurate way to tune for any car making under 550rwhp. Don't mess with it until you're over those power levels because it becomes very tricky to get all the areas right, WOT, part throttle, hot starts, etc.

Ideally the MAF calibration table in the PCM would
properly scale the MAF's output frequency to the
true airflow, so that fuel delivery calculations are
truth-based. Faking out fuel and timing with a
deliberately (or ignorantly) mis-tuned MAF on a
stock calibration car is a blind stab at tuning and
if you tuned it properly you could get a better
set of results. In this case you might as well have
the least restrictive intake tract possible, but too
often it just ends up a ghetto tune gone wrong,
since most people don't have tuning capability.

Thats why, I'm comming up on the 700rwhp mark and I just wanted to get everything out of her I can. On the other hand if it's only gonna give me another 5-10 rwhp then forget it it's not worth it to me.

Anyone know someone who has done this? If so how much did they pick up?
