Default hpp3 --> tuning shift points and rev limit

I would like to know what would be a good start for tuning the shift points and rev limit on a complete bone stock 98z with the 2.73 rear. Staying safe with the tranny and the rear is really important for me. What would be a good start when my wet nos kit jumps another 100hp ?

Thx for the help !!!!

Stock valve springs will make you want to keep the stock rev limiter. Start bumping up the 1-2 and 2-3 shift points up 1 mph until you hit the rev limiter before it shifts then back them off 1 mph. You may need different shift points spraying. Trial and error will determine that. If you are worried about the tranny, do not spray through the shifts. You will probably want to get a window switch.

I'm basically stock except for a cut-out, ported maf ends, and ftra. I have my shift points set at +3.+6.+8. I e-mailed Hypertech and they were in a greement with my choices. I also have my shift firmness set at 75%. Hypertech told me I can bump it up to 100% without any problems. They said they have gotten e-mails about people's transmission's running cooler with the 100% shift firmness.
I'm not sure if i believe that one though.
Good luck.

its true with less delay there is less friction. believe it or not the faster shifts could extend the life of your tranny too

XtinctHawk02 : Do you have the 2.73 rear end gears ? Could you pass me up hypertech email address ? It is hard to believe the tranny will run cooler with shift firmness up to 100% but I just got myself a deep pan with cooling tubes that runs through it (derale pan) I hope it works wonders

WS6FirebirdTA00 : Hope it will extend its life !!!

I'm in agreement with WS6FirebirdTA00. A firmer shift is better for the trans - or at least that was always my school of thought...

More firmness will engage the clutches faster and
less slip time = less heat in the clutch packs, where
things are tight and heat is hard to extract quickly.
Too hot a clutch/steel face and you can varnish or
glaze up the clutches, and they don't get better
after that.

Whether the excess pressure would hurt anything
elsewhere, I guess opinions vary and facts are few
to be found.

However, I have gone over a year with Predator
settings on my shift adaptation tables = zero, which
maximizes shift apply pressures, and no ill effect
has popped up yet. I am more concerned about the
shock applied in hard, TM-removed shifting than wear,
all in all.

Just a question I have put my shift firmness at 75% and it feels just great... Man that hypertech thing takes years to program tho lol. Ok if I put my rev limiter at 6300 rpm which is 100rpm more can I hurt anything ? I mean if the stock shifts points are the same I just wont hit fuel cut after 6300 rpm and I will **** at the same rpm limit so my car will basicly never see it even right ? The only reason for this is when I spray it will just be a bit safer since I won't hit fuel cut until 6300 instead of 6200 if something goes wrong... I have my window switch set at 5800 but if it goes haywire I have a bit of reassurance.
