www.hptuners.com I don't know of many "chip companies" out there for the 98's, most just use our software or have a local tunershop tune them.

EFI live and the 98 is free(not locked to a license) meaning you dont have to use the license on it and can save them for another car.

Started out using our software back in 04ish on my own 98 LS1, since then we've added 2 bar custom operating systems for them as well(still the only company to offer this for the 98's). Our Pro interface($649) and Std($499) come with 8 credits, enough to tune a couple of 98's, a 99 and a 00 or any other vehicle you want to tune without having to purchase any additional licenses. You can purchase via our orders page www.hptuners.com/order.php

Additionally you can try our software before you buy, the link to our demo software can be found in my signature.

I don't think he will be tuning anyone else's car anytime soon asking these questions.

EFI or HPT will do all you need plus a bunch that you won't need till years later.

I personally like HPT as I was introduced to that first. I have messed with EFI but find HPT a bunch easier.

Ease of use is touchy. I have both...using EFI for LS1's and HPT for my Cobalt SS. I started on EFI, so that one seems easier to me. I've been using HPT and have grown accustomed to its layout. But, to this day, I prefer the UI in EFI. It's a simple windows-like folder structure...very easy to navigate for me compared to the tab'd layout in HPT with buttons placed randomly throughout the open window. I think the biggest thing I like about EFI is the scanner. The filters are super easy to setup and use, the UI seems much more professional/thought out, and I have all of the shortcuts I need to know memorized ()...

In the end, it's a personal decision. I'm fortunate enough to have access to both.
