Default Mail Order Tunes

Can a good tuner nail down a tune through a mail order or am I better off to go with getting a dyno tune done? A reputable tuner told me he can do a mail order tune for my car that will be right on with no need to have it tweaked?

If your car is complete and its not missing anything than a mailing order tune will be good. A lot of people like me preffer to get a personal Dyno tune to get more into how the car is running, saves the hassle from mailing and stuff.

I can only tell you from my personal experience. I've had both, and even though there was only a 2 hp difference (same dyno before and after) the car performed noticeably better with the custom dyno tune.

Best bet is of course a live tune on the dyno... But that is also the most expensive.

I have done 3 methods... Basic mail order tune, live dyno and one that is a mix. The mix is pretty cool.... Where I get the module from a guy... I do WOT runs with my laptop and send him the recorded runs. Then he tunes a PCM based off my runs. It allows iterations on tuning by trading pcm's.

I only one guy who did this... Pm me if you want my contact. I think it cost me like $250 total.

only consider a mail order if you have ZERO access to a tuner locally or within driving distance.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm just going to spend the extra money and get it dynoed after reading your replies.

if it were just bolt ons and minor stuff, a mail order tune would suffice. But for the stuff in your sig, go to a dyno.

It's really more about the tuner than the method personally for me.

I would rather a mail order from Frost then any dyno tune from anyone within two hours of me. I don't care if it was a 4xx 106mmturbo Open Loop speed density blah blah...

Whatever you do just make sure they are competent enough to do it properly and take care of you.

A good tune is worth the 3-5 hour drive to Fran96SS giving that you are on the east side of PA.

I agree, if its just basic stuff then youd be fine.....but nailing down driveability with big cams is tough to do mail order. WOT might be perfectly fine but cruising down the street at 40mph in 6th gear might be a nightmare.

Send us your computer we can flash it so its safe to drive and we will deduct that money off your final tune price.

Agreed. Once you get into bigger cams and more mods other than simple bolts on its when you will need a Dyno tune.

So true. Crusing around town makes me not want to drive my car.

I did the mail order tune.It worked ok but a dyno tune would have been so much better.
