Default Will LS1 EDIT turn off the VATS system?

I think the wires are broken in my ignition cylinder for the VATS and I don't know if I want to go through all the crap of replacing the cylinder. If I get LS1 EDIT or send out the PCM can the VATS system be shut off and the car run normal like it's still there. Also...where can I get LS1 EDIT?

Use a resistor to bypass the VATS for the key. Better to spend $2 for the resistors than buy LS1edit.

how would this work or more to the point where would you install the resistor?

Anyone have instructions on how to do the resistor by-pass?

Never heard of a resistor bypass. You can get a VATS bypass unit on ebay for cheap do a search on VATS.

Will the VATS bypass hold for a permanent fix?

Anyone have a good pic of the connector that I have to install the resistor into? There are quite a few connectors under the column. I looked earlier and there were a few two wire connectors. It would help if someone had a picture from their actual car and could point out the exact connector.

Under that column you will see a piece of shrink wrap around two wires that comes down from the key and goes into the car. The shrink wrap is usually orange or black. It should have only two wires in it usually white in color. DO NOT CUT ANY WIRES IN A YELLOW WIRE LOOM!!!!!
Look for the white wires.

There is a connector that I have to unplug and insert the correct resistor into, right? I don't have to cut any wires and stuff like that. I have been reading about some by-pass modules on EBAY too, like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

I plan to get the ignition cylinder replaced but not right now.

jeebus find someone with hptuners or edit and just have it turned off. What a hassle. takes on button to get rid of that.

If you really think it will stop a car thief, you must not have met their flatbed

I looked under the column again and the only connector I could find was black and has two white wires traveling up the column on the same side as the cylinder. These two wires have an orange wrapping that covers them going up the column. The opposing wires on the other side of the black connector are not both completely white; I believe they are striped. Is this the connector for the vats? I also measured the ohms of the key chip and it was 867. Radio Shack doesn't have a resistor that high, now what? Can someone give me a quality picture of these connector I am looking for?

well resistors can be run in a series

ie
150+150+150+150.... resistance adds up in series iirc.

that would be close enough?

This would require soldering the resistors together I assume. I am still unsure of the actual wires I am suppose to be modifying.

I would except no one around here has Edit or TUNERS...in northeast Ohio, having a catback on your LS1 is considered a modded car! There are very few serious cars around here.

See the link and the picture for the connector attached to the white wires from the lock cylinder. I have to snip the wires before the connector on the PCM side to the connector and solder the connectors to the wires, right? The resistance I measured on the key was about 867 ohms. Radio Shack didn't have a resistor that high so I got two 470 ohms. I can soldier them together then soldier them to the wires, right?
picture link: http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/vats.html

According to this link:http://www.asttraining.com/Files/vats1.pdf
I can go from 850-942...so two 470s would equal 940 and that should work, right?
