HP Tuners, computer cant find cable...
I received my HP tuners stuff last week and finished up my cam/headers install friday. I tried to do some tuning this weekend but when i tried to either use the scanner program, or try to read the PCM, the program tells me it cant locate the cable. My laptop doesnt have a serial port, I'm using a keyspan adaptor. Ive run A-tap and LS1edit off this same laptop/set up on my last car. I borrowed my dad's laptop which does have a serial port, but still wont connect. I emailed HP tuners today, but no response yet (they dont have a phone number listed on their site ) Hopefully they respond soon as there is not such thing as hot start now Just wondered if you guys had any suggestions. Their help file mentioned maybe a fuse or power to the little port under the steering wheel, can't remember the technical term off hand, or if that even makes sense, im not aware of any fuse specifically for that. Anyway, TIA

There is an upper bound to the number of COM ports
scanned, looking for the cable. If your USB adapter
"decides" to be something stupid like COM13 it won't
get found. Maybe you can force it to pick a nice
low-order COM port address by Device Manager or by
whatever setup software it came with? Check on
hptuners.com, I know I've seen stuff about this but
haven't bothered to read all the detail.

Thanks for the reply. Keyspan adaptor came with this software, and I was able to set it up as COM 1, even tried 3 and 6. On the other laptop I tried that had the serial port, that was set to COM 1....

Hmm... mine found COM2 automagically (once I removed
the IR link that was keeping it from having a clean COM
functionality). Is the serial adaptor working for other kinds
of stuff? Like can you dial up through an external modem
with it? Does it show as "working properly" in the Device
Manager?

It sounds like your vehicles OBD-2 port may not be getting power. Does your cig lighter work?

Oh yeah, the serial adaptor works, we were actually using it earlier that day to tune my dads car. As for the cig lighters, the only time I've ever tried them was to plug in my phone charger but I realized I forgot to plug the lighters back in after I installed a shifter

sorry, let me clarify, my dad has an '85 vette. He's using accel DFI unit on his car, different program. I just meant to say the serial port works when he uses it with his program on his car
I just pulled my sig lighter fuse, looks like it was blown. I'll try the program again and see if it works. Might have just found the problem. Thanks for the replies
