Default help with BCM(s)

hope this is the right section, dont see one devoted specific to body control module

got a couple BCMs that would like to modify

dealer is clueless as to which ones can be reprogrammed and which ones cant.
But they would be glad to try for $105 hr.
have access to a techII and have tried to get "in" but says locked.
Ive heard that newer BCMs can be reflashed but have no idea if these can be

Well I'm a GM technician, I'm not sure about each BCM specifically, but there's no real way of modding them. You can change options and features in most of the newer ones, but for the most part when the BCM is new it gets programmed to the vehicle and locked. I haven't tried to do any more with a BCM then I need to at work so if there is some backwards tricks to them I don't know what it is.

All I've ever done to a BCM is flash it and perform set-up on them. Once they are flashed the VIN is locked to them as far as I know. Some of them can have options changed, but for the most part the newer ones only have a couple options if any because in the last 4-5 years everything has gone to getting flashed based on VIN. The older ones where options could be changed with a tech 2 weren't around for very long. Working at the dealer it's the norm to tell someone with a used BCM to take a hike, so i have never even tried to change one once it's been flashed once, they are not supposed to be reflashable, thats the GM answer anyway.

These guys claim to be able to program BCMs. I've not tried them yet, so I can't vouch for them.

What are you trying to do. Every platforms BCM is programmed differently depending on the vehicle it is out of some are one time and can't be reflashed while others can be reflashed using different VINS but it must be from the same vehicle year model and line or you can brick it just like a PCM. Pretty much BCM is programmed using the VIN for the vehicle in which it belongs. The VIN has the RPO codes for that vehicles various modules contained in GM TIS 2 web and program modules using GM MDI module. You cannot I repeat cannot just ***** nilly add and delete RPO codes because you want to. There are some instances where it gives you ability to choose a few limited options regarding minor options such as this mirror type or that. But thats about all you can do.
