Default How to add a Trans temp gauge to your ECU for non for non 4l60e/4l80e Transmissions

On 4l60e and 4l80e transmissions the transmission fluid temperature sensor is housed in the manifold pressure switch, this sensor is built in and non-removable. However this sensor shares the same resistance/temperature curve as most GM ECT and IAT sensors.

This sensor is available with a 3/8 NPT or M12x1.5 thread and can be sourced thru most auto part stores or performance shops. I used a F.A.S.T. Sensor P/N: 307003 and I can confirm this sensor works. This sensor can be installed in line with one of your transmission cooler lines or can be installed into your transmission pan.

A wiring pigtail for this sensor is needed too, this pigtail was used on most GM’s 1985 and again newer can be sourced thru most auto part stores or performance shops. I used a PICO Pigtail P/N: 5615PT. Wiring will depend on year, please see chart below. The pigtail will need to be lengthened to fit your ECU and temperature sensor location, but wiring of the sensor is one wire from the pigtail goes to one pin on the ECU and the other wire goes to the other pin. It doesn’t matter which pin is which.

99-02 ECU's
Red 51
Blue 41

03-07 ECU's
Green 51
Blue 53

Once the sensor and wiring is done all to you have to do is locate that PID/Sensor and log it using EFILive, HP Tuners, or Torque.

I realize this is an old thread, but could that sensor feed a gauge as well?

Being it is a FAST sensor, maybe call FAST and see what they say.
OP was last here in May, so he MIGHT respond.
