Default Can MAFT noticeably affect VE (and idle) in a cammed car?

I have noticed during my tuning that my idle is getting worse as I add fuel to fix my LTRIMS. I am also getting more take-off/stalling problems. From what I am reading in the archives it appears that the MAF directly affects the VE calculated in the PCM. Could this cause a noticeable difference like I am seeing? I am beginning to think the MAFT was a bad idea...
