anyway to leave car in open loop till tune?
Ok, just got done installing my cam and lt headers in my g8. Car idles great in open loop but once warmed up it doesn't want to idle, Im sure the 109lsa has something to do with it, lol.
anyways is there anyway that I can get the car to stay in open loop, just long enough to get it to the exhaust shop to finish up the 3" full exhaust which is 15 mi. away and then to the tuner which is 50 mi. away.. I will drive it very gingerly to the tuner. I don't think I can unplug the maf because the iat is built in and wouldn't it make the car run too rich since the iat will read like -49 degrees. Is there another way? If not I'll have to try to figure out where to rent a car hauler to haul it to these places. Thanks for any help.

That's nice to know. I might try that. I was also thinking of this. Since my iat is built into my maf. I might just unplug it and I have the pin layout. I might just run two wires from my maf harness to the iat pins so that way it's still working and not reading -49 and dumping extra fuel. I have a new ls7 maf/harness adapter and the 4" maf tube, then when I get to the tuner I will hook them up. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Not that I'm really confused I don't think. Lol
But from reading, disconnecting the maf does put the car in open loop and speed density. I'll just try to find a trailer to tow it to the tuner to be safe.

Please explain what you mean in more detail.
To me Speed Density (SD) means calculating fueling from the VE table using only RPM and MAP. And of course various adder tables such as the PE table.
Are you saying that in Open Loop that the PCM still reads the MAF and not just the VE table?

I have a trailer lined up to take to tuner. I would like to let the car idle for longer then the few mins. It take to go to closed loop. Any chance i can unplug the front 02's just so I can let the car idle on its own for a good 10 min on its own. So I can walk around it and check for leaks or anything out of the ordinary. Crap forgot to add. It does throw the code p0106 for the map. But I heard a cam can do that until it's tuned. Plus once it warms up the idle drops to around 550. And I believe that is when it throws that code.

Why not just try unplugging the O2 sensors then.
My new engine is also showing at p0106 code and I know the MAP sensor is good as it is tuning up just fine.

Unplug the front O2s for OL.
Unplug the MAF for SD.
Or any combination of the 2.
Here are the 4 possible modes you can run.
MAF CL
MAF OL
SD CL
SD OL
Take your pick. There are also other ways to run those modes. But those are the only 4 possibilities. When you unplug a five wire MAF you are disabling the IAT sensor.
Put a fork in it. This is done.
