Default Mail Order Tune

Hey Guys!

As the title says, i´m searching on a good mail order tuner, some experiences here, heard about Frost and wait4me Performance?

Some dyno sheets or numbers from tuning the LS6 engine only with add ons like LT Headers+HF cats and a CAI?

Regards,
Ronald

I have an old 2000 M6 bolt on LS1 with a frost mail order tune. I've been happy with it. The front o2 sensors with my long tubes were still throwing everything off. The car runs better with them unplugged. So much so that when I had my car dynoed the guy said everything looked where it should be and he wouldn't change anything. Attached some timeslips and dyno sheet for ya.

So you're running in open loop without any feedback to the ECM and you recommend others to do that too? Why not just slap a carb on there and go back in time 25 years?

If you have a dedicated hot rod that sees limited street time then it might be acceptable to run it open loop. But for any daily driver I can't see why someone would settle for a mediocre tune that only works well open loop.

I would strongly suggest finding someone that can tune your car from the driver's seat. If that is just not feasible, then continue with one of the well known mail order guys. Do you have HP Tuners or do you plan to mail your ECM out for calibration?

Sure you disabled the front o2 sensor, I've heard only of disabling the rear ones?!

Without any feedback from HO2S B1S1 and B2S1, yes. I didn’t recommend or suggest others do anything. I made a statement about my experience with a mail order tune on a bolt on car, and implied that the tune is pretty close in my particular case.

Because it’s unnecessary and the early 90’s weren’t all that great anyway. Why not just let the car make decisions based on MAP, MAF, RPM, TP, ECT, IAT, VSS, etc? Not all hope at decent engine control is lost with the omission of an emission component.

It’s not the tune’s fault that a component on my car is not working as well as it should. You would never know my car is running in open loop all the time by driving it. I promise you.

You do not understand the purpose of the B1S1 and B2S1 oxygen sensors. The sensor 1 O2 sensors provide feedback to the ECM on the amount of oxygen remaining in the exhaust gas. In Closed Loop operation the ECM uses this O2 level to determine if the engine is running rich or lean and applies fuel trims to maintain the air fuel ratio at the optimum 14.7:1 stoichiometric ratio (for gasoline). By eliminating B1S1 and B2S1 O2 sensors and forcing Open Loop operating, the ECM no longer has any feedback for air fuel ratio. Much like a carburetor, the air fuel ratio is determined only by preset values and there is zero live adjustments for atmospheric changes or for fuel tables that aren't 100% accurate. Sure the car will run and it may run decently well. But AFR is not being corrected and fuel mileage will not be optimum.

I run my twin turbo Nova in open loop on the street because I'm too cheap to keep replacing O2 sensors when I foul them with leaded race gas. But I also typically have a lap top in the car to adjust my VE table to keep AFR in the happy place.
