My 98 pcm took a crap on me and I managed to find a used 0411 pcm for a good price. I keep on reading how to get the new pcm to work with my car, but there really is no clear answer.
Do I just license the 0411 pcm with HP tuners and start a new tune from scratch? Or can I copy my 98 tune to the 0411 pcm?

You have to repin the harness (pcm connectors) to get a 0411 pcm to work with a 98 harness. just about every input and output are on different pins. You cannot flash a 98 file in a 0411 pcm. Do you know what vehicle the pcm is out of? An a 0411 could have any one of many vehicle's calibration in it. It was used on many different vehicles. With HP Tuners you always have to have a license for the file that is in the PCM and the file you are writing to it.

Yea I'm almost done with the repining process! Its from an 02 Camaro and my car is a 98 Trans am. So I can't copy and paste the values from the old tune to the new one? As far as licensing the new pcm, is there any other relearning process that I need to do, or when the pcm is licensed, or will the car will just start?

The 97/98 ECM operating system is quite different than the '99+ operating system. So no, you cannot simply copy/paste.

At a minimum you will have to disable VATS in the donor ECM. After that, drive it around while you data log and check things out. Adjust ignition timing and fueling as necessary to optimize for your car.
