Default Mail order tune vs diy programmers/timetolearn.

I will be needing a tune for my build what is the best way to go.
Mail order tune or something like, efi live, hp tunners, Diablo?

Im willing to learn the systems just not sure how complex it is?

The learning curve is highly dependent on your general knowledge of how engines work in the first place. If you have a good grasp of that, the fact that you are able to post in an internet forum means you have the computer skills to use tuning software. If you lack the basic fundamentals of how engines run, learning will be a time consuming process with many potentially costly consequences for failure. BTW, my idea of what a "general knowledge of how engines work" consists of may not be the same as yours.

What kind of parts are you using on your build? Cam, injectors or boost?

I am decently computer savvy i guess and i would say i know a far amount about how engines work but i have no clue as to how complex the editing is for the tables.
i know what parts do what but i dont know what values are linked to what type of action the computer will take for what ever event may take place.

as far as parts im putting the engine together with I will be using a stock lq9 short block with 80k
Iam also doing a 6 speed swap on the car as well

cnc ported heads 229cc
ls6 intake
tsp 17/8 headers an ory
3'' magnaflow cat back
slp lid
ported 85mm tb
tr6 plugs
160 tstat
pd 25% underdrive pulley
truck heat sink coils
link bar lifters
vrx5 cam
btr .660 springs dual springs
titanium valves & retainers, and all the other related parts
ls6 pcv system
milling 120905 oil pump
ls2 chain and tick ls2 dampener adapter
255 racetronix pump W. hotwire kit
stock ls1 or lq9 injectors and fuel rail
katech belt tensioner

future plan will be upgrading to roller rockers and electric water pump.

you will need to take that setup to a shop to get done on a dyno.... mail-order won't work for all those mods...

We CAN do a mail order tune on that combo if that's what the OP wants to get up and running. It will still need to be fine tuned in person, but the OP was asking about mail order tuning options.

With your mods it will have to be checked in person or through email with data logs which would require you to have tuning software and a wideband. There is no way to know how far the tune would be off especially WOT fueling, it could literally be off 1% or 20% every single vehicle is different even 100% stock ones. If you dont have tuning software our mail order tune would be meant just to get you and running and driving so you could drive somewhere to get the tune finished. Its not meant to be your final tune.

Hard to say what the average is, every shop has their own pricing and it varies from area to area also. I have seen low as $350 and seen high as a $1,000 for the same vehicle. We start at $500 which is what most of the other tuning shops we deal with are around.

I dont consider HP Tuners a cheap device, its a power tuning tool just as good as efi live. We sell email tuning packages with hp tuners with email tunes. In order to tune it 100% through email you would also need a wideband O2 sensor ($150-$200).
