Default At my wits end w/ lean Codes 171 & 174

Any help to resolve Air/Fuel mixture ( running lean ) will be astronomically appreciated. I have made relatively small modifications compared to some of the cars I have read about. It's like I changed the MAF Sensor and Bellow and all of the sudden my car cannot get the Air Fuel correct. I even sent my SLP MAF Sensor back to have it checked out and put my stock back on. The SES light still came on with the same codes. I bought a MAF Translator (ver 6.2) and put on the richest setting for both base and WOT. Still too lean. I have pulled the EGR Pipe going into the Intake twice to make sure I do not have a leak at that point. I followed the vacuum line trail and cannot find any visable problem. I have checked, re checked almost everything I can think of. When I made my mods I never took off the intake or heads. I have been working on this off & on for about 3 months. My state inspection is due by 08/31/2004. I still have a little time so I am willing to take on suggestions.

Thanks,

Check that the MAF is outputting anything at all,
as seen by the PCM?

Just putting the stock sensor back, might not clear
codes. If your codes were cleared and the stocker
is setting them again, I would look to the MAF
wiring harness (like pushed a pin back, etc. during
the install?) and the fuse for the 12V that feeds
the MAF (just check MAF power first, at the
connector). At idle I would expect to see about
2000Hz out of the MAF. Though most people don't
have frequency measurement gear, that's a
situation that a trip to Radio Shack and $49 will
fix right up - some of their DMMs have frequency
(I even got one on sale, once, that has both
frequency and temperature and came with a
thermocouple probe).

check your connections at the exhaust, such as the flanges and or the egr hookup on top of the exhaust manifolds
