My 2000 GMC Sierra truck starts for a second if that then dies right away, I’ve change the fuel filter, and checked a bunch of things and it still won’t stay running my father inlaw owned the truck before me and he parked it the beginning of winter and it was running perfectly fine. I don’t know what else to try please help me

Check ALL electrical connections, including grounds. Something might have corroded during winter, and hangs on just long enough to start, when the engine moves enough to break the connection,

Sounds like a vats security issue. When starting truck see if the security light goes out while cranking like everything else.

I didn't think VATS would even let it turn over.

VATS will let it start, then run, then shut it down within 1-2 seconds of run time.. My guess would be VATS as well.
