Need help identifying an e38 ecm
I have an unknown E38 ECM pn#12653784 serv#12633238 is there some way from those two numbers to find out what it came out of?
I am using a 2012 Camaro SS LS3 manual wire harness on an LS3 swap in a 68 Camaro. I have read that the Camaro ECM is unique and you cannot use a Camaro
wire harness with the Silverado ECM. Is that true? The guy I got the ECM from said he thinks it was from a 2011 Camaro. But, he
said its possible its from a Silverado too. Such a mess.

Could I just run the Silverado OS with a stand alone wire harness and a manual trans and just tune
original truck tune to work with my LS3 head/cam/stroker combo? Or, do i need to have a GM
SPS reflash to a different OS like a Corvette or Camaro?

12633238 is an MY10 up E38. Generally any Operating System (Z06 is an exception), 2010+ will full flash into a 12633238. If your tuner is using HPtuners, they can even flash in the Throttle Control segments for a 2012 Camaro. Otherwise it needs a TIS flash with a 2012 Camaro VIN. Anything starting with 1265 is generally a late '13 or into '14 ECM. You would need the VIN in the ECM to confirm where it came from.

Since this is an LS Swap into a 68 Camaro does it really matter if I tune it as a Silverado?
Or, is there some other reason to start with a 2010+ Camaro tune? I thought the E38
was transmission agnostic and the TCM was not a part of the E38 ECM. As long as the
Silverado ECM will ground the reverse solenoid pinout I would think it should work just
as well as a Camaro OS. No?

Best to go with what your harness builder recommends, likely they would say just go with a C6 M6 SPS flash.

I am wiring it myself. And tuning it myself. I think I will try to do it using the Silverado ECM
I am way over budget and really can't afford to spend much more to get it running. I will
just turn off all the DTC's for the automatic and set the transmission type in HPTuners to
a manual. Will have to turn off variable displacement too. I have read on the Silverado
forum that the E38 can be used with a manual. I think I can use the 4wd low enable for
the reverse solenoid activation since the Silverado OS does not use X2 pin 11 for reverse
solenoid. I'll have to swap the pedal pins 56 and 30 D&F as the Camaro E38
wire harness and and Truck E38 have those swapped. So, far that is what I have learned.
