Just cranked up fresh 2000 LS 5.3 Turbo 400 trans build 0.598 intake 0.604 exhaust Howard Cam. Bored .30 mm rebuilt 862 heads springs provided with cam Everything else is stock I did add a 60 psi fuel pump in tank with flex fuel injectors and later learned those injectors run at lower fuel pressure. Had computer tuned removing VATS EGR TRANSMISSION ETC. Would it be cheaper to get this thing tuned at shop or purchase a HP Tuner it cranks great cold and sounds great but then it starts warming up and stalls and runs rich as crap. I don’t let it run long like this don’t want to destroy my fresh build. It does backfire out exhaust once it warms up when I rev it up like I said it sounds awesome any suggestions. I do have a snap on scanner ( nice one) and everything seems fine when running as far as reading go any suggestions from pros on my options

The learning curve for HP Tuners is steep and I don't recommend it. Who did your first tune to remove VATS, etc.? Why can't they do the things needed to the tune that's in it?

Are you running MAF? What is hooked up? Or not hooked up?

I have map maf 2 front o2,s no egr blocked off no pollution control items. I sent ecu off to some dude off eBay with all my specs and that’s all I know. and now he has vanished off the face of the earth after paying 150 for a tune i see he did disable VATS It will crank and run I do see on scanner the transmission is showing in 2nd gear so my snap on scanner won’t allow me to control/test IAC to see if it’s working. I’m not using a electronic trans just a t400

Well at least he didn't hose you on the price of the tune - same as I would pay here in Louisiana. Fix / lower your fuel pressure and see what happens. Maybe the richness will go away.

I have a return fuel line with a regulator on fuel rail? Any way to modify that you know of ?

Buy HPTuners
yes it is a steep learning curve BUT chopperdoc on here is putting up some great how to videos as well as you can find them on the net
in the end you tuned it yourself and can really dial it in for best performence

I agree. He is putting up some good stuff. Glad you like it lol.

OP - It is a steep learning curve, but not impossible. Just sounds like it needs a tune brother. Get the VE dialed in, and the other consideration is if you have a ton of overlap, you will get a "false lean" condition from oxygen escaping into the exhaust. When fuel trims are enabled (STFT) this will cause some really rich conditions at low RPM. There are quite a few ways around this. One is simply doing an "open loop idle" by enabling Power Enrichment at idle which effectively disables fuel trims any time it's on. I included this in my idle tuning guide.

I am currently working on a boost setup guide as well, so folks know how to get started with that. Stayed "tuned" for that one (har har), coming soon when I find the time to finish it. Also I research pretty much everything for consensus on the community so it's not "just me" in most of these videos. I take community knowledge and combine it to get the best "general" guide possible. I don't want to lead folks astray, so I take as much input as possible before putting things together. With boost, give me a bit and I'll get something together that should be useful to you.

what is the best one/hp available today? I seen some for like 299 from summit racing no credits but I watched a video on this one and it’s like a work in progress? Very confusing

This is terrible advice, I definitely recommend hptuners and with some help from people here and some videos on YouTube you will be good to go.
