Default Tuning software

I'd like to learn how to tune my car. It's always interested me, so I think now is the time to learn. What do I need to do so? HP tuners is what I am after. Just need to know which package to purchase. Thanks.

Get the PRO version. That way you can wire your Wideband (or other gauges) straight into the MPVI unit. The standard is more for the weekend warrior types, whereas with the PRO, there won't be any difficulty in tuning anything in the future, and no limitations to what tables you can tune (wideband again).

So when you buy it, go ahead and pick up a wideband O2 sensor and gauge that is supported by the scanner. If it's not you will need the transform math to convert the signal. AEM, and many others are supported in the scanner so it's quick and painless. I use AEM personally. No issues.

Perfect. Thank you. How many credits is it for a vehicle? Also, I have a different car that has already been tuned using HP. Can I just plug it in and start tuning for do I need additional items? Thanks.

For most domestic cars it's just 2 credits to license a file. This must be done on your software, as the credits and license work through the MPVI unit. That means you will have to burn 2 credits to write your PCM. Once you unlock it though, you can write it as many times as you want, modify tunes, etc. HP Tuners uses the VIN from the PCM to license a tune. So if you have to ever change the PCM you have to burn 2 more credits...

Here is the complete list of vehicles and how much they cost to license.

The software and MPVI are sold normally with 8 credits on them. After that, you have to start buying them.

There are quite a few vendors out there, many of which are on this site. I bought mine through Summit years ago, because of the military discount they offer. I saved a few bucks there. LSX and others sell the setups as well. Another place you can look is the marketplace. I've seen lots of guys selling their stuff with credits still on them, for much cheaper than the cost new. All options to look into. Don't get in a rush, have a look around and make some phone calls. My guess is someone will jump in here with some additional offers for you.

I just watched an intro video you made and it was fantastic and very informative. How do I know if I should tune in SD or using the MAF? Or should I just use both? It's a G8 with a cam. Thanks, very helpful stuff!

We sell hpt and widebands. We sell the standard version and a serial wideband more than the pro option but both work fine.

Your the first one to chirp so I'll buy from you. I was looking at the page, do you have to purchase credits right off the get go or do some get included? Which wideband do you recommend? I see you can just take the signal wire and pin it to an empty port or one with a 5v and then just rename it. Thanks.

We do not have any without credits in stock...all our have 2 credits already loaded. We can order one with any amount or add credits in just a few minutes. If its a pre-2008 we normally sell the innovate lc2 with a serial cable, if its 2008+ we sell the AEM wb that uses CAN to import the signal through the OBDII port.

Perfect. It's a 2009 G8. I'll order based on your recommendations. Thank you.
