When i start the car when warmed up ,it will rev up to around 3000rpm.

Ill be honest, I don't know what a e38 comes in. If you tell me what the base tune/ecm came out of, I can probably download the tune from HP Tuners and take a look. It only does it when it's warm? Does it idle down after say 4-5 seconds?

Does it rev to 3k and hold at 3k or does it just light off, go to 3k and fall back down to the warm idle?

I highly doubt it’s a tune setting. Literally nothing is set that high stock. Changing the tune for something like this is more of a bandaid for a mechanical issue.

I’d look at vacuum leaks, or bad throttle settings. What TB are you using? Is it compatible with your other parts?

It’s highly unlikely this is a tune issue.

I broke a valve spring , wrecked a lifter and needed a new cam.
I put new springs , lifters and the same spec cam in , didn’t touch the tune
the revs drop straight back down.
When it’s a cold start alls normal.
ive checked for vacuum leaks
the tune is good except the hot start rpm

Upon reassembly, is it possible to have cracked the intake manifold, which only rears its head once heated up?

It may be an unpopular answer, but after a rebuild of any kind and **** is doing this, well, I’m sorry to be the harbinger of bad news lol.

Also, 39 isn’t that damn old hahahaha.

I'm older than you, but in active duty years, 39 definitely makes you an old man.

Haha. Unfortunately most of the internet believes that you can.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "It just needs a tune."

Got this issue sorted now. I hadnt tuned E85 before so i got my tuner do it, for some reason he had the ETC scaler set at 4,000.
I upped it to 7,200, dropped startup airflow by 10% over 68degrees celsius and now its close
