I'm setting up the standalone logging - simple manual push button triggers. I've seen a few videos as well as the setup doc on HPTuners website. My question is - everything is grayed out in the standalone data logging functions. Even though my MPVI2 is connected to USB, it still is searching for the device. I can access those functions fine if I connect to vehicle. Is that the norm ... you can't access those configs unless youre connected to vehicle?
I'm working around it. It creates a level of inconvenience however. Standalone logging is great as I don't have to have the laptop connected to log, But I do have to have it to get the log file.
We never got the MPVI2 stand-alone to work. Maybe they have fixed it in the latest software? Have you looked on the HPTuners site?
My MPVI1 works fine. Sure is handy for drag racing.
Yes, I looked on the HPTuners website and the howto is pretty good.
The standalone is actually working quite well. It triggers on it's own and also manually can start or stop it.
The only issue I'm having with it now is that my channel config doesn't seem to write to the MVPI2. When I pull up the logs, it only has the default channels. I may have to trigger it from the laptop so that I can log all of the channels that my tuner wants to see.
I performed everything from the document on the HP Tuners website and had to run some errands this morning so I figured I'd get some logs.
Nothing more aggravating than pulling up those logs and the channels I want are missing!!! GRRRRR!!!
If anyone has gotten the standalone logging working with your custom channels, clue me in please!!!
I don't know about the MPVI 2, but on the old pro, you had to send the configuration, to the unit, so it knew what to log. I haven't done it in years. I just leave my laptop in the seat when I'm tuning.
Ive decided I'm either tuning or I'm not. I used to log, and look logs to help learn, and now I'm just less interested, or more comfortable.
I think it would be a great feature, but even if the standalone did write my channel config to log, the scanner still has to be connected to the vehicle to get the log. Point being ....it makes sense to just take your laptop with you anyways.
OK ... I think it comes down to USB3 vs. USB2. I picked up a nice little $59.00 laptop that will be used for tuning and logging. It's ports are USB3. My other laptop is USB2. With the new laptop, it powers up the MVPI2 and does'nt need to be connected to the vehicle to power it. I was able to write the channel config to it then go logging!
Awesome! Maybe you can throw up a couple of screen shots to help show it? Just for the next guy who's struggling. Glad you posted back, that's what helps this forum.

First, connect the MPVI2 to your laptop's USB port. Launch the VCM scanner, open the channel config or create a new one. This will be what you want to write to your MPVI2 for stand along logging.
Open the MPVI2 data logging config.
Select "write" so that it will write the channel config to the MPVI2.
Lastly, go log! If you have the default setup for triggers, it will automatically start logging when you start driving.
For documentation purposes, I never could get the `99 TA to stand along log my channel config for that car. It would log but had the default channels. I had to connect the laptop. However, I had no problem with stand alone logging with the `08 Corvette. Why? I don't know ... CAN bus?

We could never get it to work on the P01/P59 pcm's either.
MPVI1 works fine.
Really frustrating on my buddies mid 8 second truck I tune logging it with the damn laptop in the car all the time.
He contacted HPT and was told to use the latest beta software. No dice.

So when you log stand alone without the laptop, does it log with the default channels? If so, do a read channel config and save it, then open the channel config. Does it have all your channels? When I do that, it has all of the channels so there is no issue with writing the channel config - it just doesn't log them!
Hey OP thank you for posting that to help the next guy!
Ron, now you're making me consider trying to log my P59 with my box. I stopped doing it years ago because if I was tuning, I was tuning, period. Needed a laptop.
My only real issue is the tablet I used, while sitting in the seat, would occasionally turn off when I'd make a run. I realized the power button would touch the seat on acceleration, and turn off. Almost threw it out the window one day. Bought a laptop with a better power button location.
